Standing out on top of a hill, Casa Itatiba was designed in such a way as to make the most of the existing topography, keeping the building on a high level of the land so as to take in the views of the surroundings. The house is built at an oblique angle to the street, so that it is angled towards the plot. In addition to guaranteeing the most beautiful views for most of the rooms, we ensured that the project had a greater distance from the future neighbor of the most important view, as well as ensuring that the openings of most of the rooms in the house were oriented towards the north-south face, optimizing the insolation in winter while at the same time protecting them from the sun in summer. In order to overcome the slope of more than 7 meters towards the bottom of the plot and the difference of 4 meters from one side to the other from the front of the plot, a ramp was created on the lower side to transfer the effort of the climb to the car, until it reached the garage at the back of the house.
Social access is natural via a stone chip path in the middle of the front garden. A staircase made of bricks and grass is used to bridge the gap between the pool and the veranda and barbecue area, where visitors arrive. On the "ground" level there is the social and services program, plus the garage, office and master suite, all surrounded by grass and garden areas.
On the upper floor, 3 compact suites complete the program of needs. You can walk out onto the roof of the first floor, which occupies a larger area than the first floor, from where you can see the geography of the condominium and its mountains and valleys. The house has two well-defined views: One emphasizes the volume of the pool protruding from the natural profile of the land and the rectangular volume of the veranda, demarcated by the red metal structure and articulated perforated sheet metal brises. Another on the side, highlighted by the configuration of disconnected brick "boxes" on different planes with windows highlighted by steel plate flaps that create a kind of sunshade for the sun's higher radiation in summer.
The rationality of the construction system is present in the use of the metal structure and in the modulation of the ecological brick made from waste building materials, used in an apparent way to seal the house. Prefabricated concrete panel slabs used without internal lining and internal and external floors made of São Tomé stone give the project the desired constructive coherence, as well as reducing construction costs. The project has ample natural lighting and ventilation, providing an adequate level of comfort and reducing energy consumption. The brises, clad in red, together with the metal structure and frames, provide an interesting contrast to the more opaque color of the brick.
